In 2014, Corrections Victoria bought 50 shipping containers to create 100 temporary minimum-security prison cells for lowest security prisoners. This was done to tackle the prison crisis faced by government, in which more than hundreds of prisoners are being held in police cells for extended periods due to the lack of prison cells available across the city.

3) Shipping Container Sports Hall in London
Dunraven School decided to employ using old shipping containers to construct a new sports hall. The recycled shipping container gym was developed at the cost of only £1.5 million, which is about half the cost of a traditional gym. The entire construction process took only three days.

Due to the nature of the institution, ISDSI sought to avoid any harms to the trees on the property where the school resides. Hence, the overall structure was designed to create a space that had a natural connection with the environment.

7) Caution Cinema Container
Called the Caution Cinema, a shipping container is transformed into a pop-up cinema where port workers can be taught vital health and safety information. 1000 foam pyramids is used to construct the mobile screening room, in order to create a “startlingly alien” vibe. It is done so to ensure that Britain’s port workers remain engaged when learning behaviour practices that could one day save their lives.
