You’ve probably seen a cargo shipping container or two. Who hasn’t, really? They’re a common staple across the world and have been for some time. They are used extensively in the shipping industry for their durability and ability to ride out any weather when transporting cargo. However, cargo transport isn’t the only thing that these hulking containers are good for. shipping containers for sale have been used for many purpose.
Regardless of whether it’s a 20ft shipping container or a larger 40ft shipping container, creative minds from all over the world have found a way to use them outside of the shipping industry.
Below are 3 ways it has been used this 2018.
Passively Cooled Living Spaces
Taking eco-friendliness to a whole other level, the Contenedores Franceschi project commissioned by Re Arquitectura and DAO is located in Santa Ana, Costa Rica. Made up of not just one, but three heavily modified 40ft shipping containers created into a structure with a functional roof and raised off the ground by concrete supports.
The main purpose of the homes is to show that not all container homes suffer from poor thermal and ventilation performance. Re Arquitectura puts forth the claim that their shipping container homes have no need for air-conditioning. Thanks to their design, they make use of the breeze and used carefully placed glazing to promote cross-ventilation. The firm also used insulting paint for added insulation.
Affordable Veteran Housing
It’s no secret that the United States is facing a huge problem when it comes to army veterans going homeless. The Tiny House Village aims to help solve or at least minimise the crisis using recycled and repurposed shipping containers.
A ceremonial groundbreaking for the “Tiny House Village” in Las Vegas was already held on February 26, with initial plans already in place for 11 units of 320-square-foot shipping containers to be turned into living spaces for homeless veterans.
Portable Data Centers
Would you believe it if someone told you that the future of private and secure data lied in recyclable housing containers? Although they mostly have experienced a surge in popularity thanks to increased interest in using them as sustainable housing, their portability, in addition to their durability, has made them an excellent choice for portable data centres.
Some agencies in the United States have already turned to shipping container data centres to store sensitive information. Why use them? They’re very easy to move and keep cool. Not only that, but they can also use these units to operate cloud services for larger networks.
Going forward, it won’t come off as a surprise for data centres to go from large office buildings to portable container housings.
It’s only been a few months into 2018 and we’ve already seen a lot of innovative uses for cargo containers. Who knows what the rest of the year has in store for us? Whether happens or not, one thing for sure is that the craze for cargo containers is here to stay.
